2. Methods

Methods used:
1) Survey
We are conducting a survey as it is a way for us to get the opinions of the public about the water quality in Singapore. We also want to investigate whether the ways already being used (desalination etc) to purify the water are good enough/temporary as we believe that we can make it better. In this way, our society will be a better place.

Other than that, we can tabulate the results so we would know which part of Singapore to focus on etc. (water quality).

Question 1:
What does 'water quality' mean to you? (OE)
Reason for choosing this question:
We chose this question because we want the people to define what is water quality, in this way, we are able to tell whether they know what they are answering in the next few questions and know our objective of the survey.

Question 2:
Which part of Singapore do you stay in? (OE)
Reason for choosing this question:
This is to ensure that the responses we are receiving are from all the other parts of Singapore instead of just one part (i.e. West). Other than that, from this, we are able to tell the water quality in different parts of Singapore and thus, improve it!

Question 3a:
Do you think the water in Singapore is slightly overpriced? (MCQ)
Reason for choosing this question:
We want opinions from people on whether Singapore is charging water at an affordable price or not.

Question 3b:
Why do you say so? (OE)
Reason for choosing this question:
We want the people to justify on why they think the water in Singapore is overpriced or not.

Question 4:
Approximately, how many litres of water do you use everyday? (MCQ)
*A glass of water is estimated to be 250m and a 15-min shower utilises up to 20ℓ of water.
A: 0 to 10
B: 11 to 20
C: 21 to 30
D: 31 to 40
E: Others (please state)
Reason for choosing this question:
This is to estimate how much water they use everyday in average. We can thus tell whether they are conserving or wasting water. This piece of information will help us in the project as it will give us ideas on how to improve the water quality and how much water we need to produce.

Question 5a:
Do you think you are using water responsibly? (MCQ)
A: Yes
B: No
Reason for choosing this question:
This question serves to tell us whether the people are really using water for essential purposes (need) or whether they are just wasting it because they feel like it.

Question 5b:
Justify your answer. In what ways are you using it responsibly/irresponsibly? (OE)
Reason for choosing this question:
We want the people to justify on why they think they use water responsibly or irresponsibly.

Reason for choosing this question:
This is to get opinions from people on what kind of pollutants there are in Singapore's water.

Question 7:

Singapore has adopted many ways in order for us to have clean water. Which one below do you think is the most effective? (MCQ)

We specifically asked this question as we want to know what is the most effective way Singapore has adopted so far and modify it accordingly so that the new and improved method we are coming up with and suffice.

Question 8b:
Please elaborate on your answer. (OE)
Reason for choosing this question:
This is to ensure that the reasons the people are giving are valid. This will then further help us in our recommendations on how to solve the problem. We can use their answers to come up with a good solution.

Question 9:
How do you think we can improve on those methods? (OE)

This question serves to aid us in the improvement of the methods in order to obtain quality water.
